Don’t Let Those Insurance Benefits Expire!

2017 is almost over, and that means it’s time to talk about insurance.

Most vision insurance policies differ from other major medical policies. For instance, many regular health insurance policies provide unlimited benefits after you pay a certain co-pay or meet a predetermined deductible. Vision insurance plans, however, are known as discount or wellness benefit plans that offer specific benefits and discounts when you pay an annual insurance premium.

Because of this key difference, it’s important you get the most out of your vision plan each year.  If you know your insurance covers your vision and haven’t taken advantage of all your benefits, then now is the time to do so!

Is Your Coverage Compatible?

Although we accept most medical and vision plans, there are a few in which we are considered out-of-network.  Some of the plans we accept are listed on our website, but if you don't see your plan included or just aren't sure, give us a call and we will be happy to help.  Even if we are not in-network with your benefit plan, many insurance companies provide out-of-network benefits and will reimburse you a portion of your costs.  We are also happy to help you complete any forms that may be required to submit for reimbursement.

Commonly Covered Procedures

Most patients know that insurance will usually cover the medical and routine portion of your vision exam.  Some plans will contribute towards the purchase of glasses or contact lenses, but not usually both.  If you have a Flex Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA), you can use those saved pre-tax dollars on your exam, co-pays, glasses and contact lenses in any combination, even prescription sunglasses and contact lens solution!  Many times, there are also rebates you can submit online to receive significant reimbursement on contact lenses and glasses, such as Essilor's Ultimate Lens Offer that's currently available until December 29, 2017.

What To Do Before The Year Ends

It is common for insurance benefits to expire at the end of the calendar year and what benefits have not been used won't roll over to the new year, so don't let them go to waste!  But because of this, the end of the year is a very busy time for medical practices and the schedule fills up quickly.  Don't wait until the last minute!  Schedule as soon as possible to ensure there are open appointments available.  Keep in mind that prescription glasses are a custom-made item and can often require anywhere from 5-10 business days to receive the finished product, but as long as the order is placed prior to the end of the year it will still apply to this year's benefits.

We Can’t Wait To See You!

We’re always looking out for our patients and want to make sure you’re taking the fullest advantage of your benefits! If you have any questions regarding insurance that offers vision coverage, stop by or call us today and we can help!
